Nothing is Perfect…or is it?

Less than two weeks away from the ASC and I am a few steps closer to reaching my goals. I have had to dig real deep to muster up the strength and the courage to make up the ground I lost during my recent bout with pneumonia. But, I’m happy that my body has responded to the extra effort…I feel closer now to being on track. I have had a lot of love and support from family, friends, especially my husband, my coach and trainers Pete and Meriza and last but not least Rocky Balboa. Yes I did say Rocky Balboa. You see, during my prep for this show, I have had many “speed bumps” (small ones and a couple big ones) that have slowed me down – equipment malfunctions, my bout with pneumonia, broken heart-rate monitors, misplaced keys, family issues…you name it, it seemed to be happening to me exactly during the time when I didn’t need it…It was not turning out to be a perfect run to the Arnold’s but (I’m learning) when is anything ever perfect?

I started watching Rocky movies during my cardio sessions and it has really amped up my intensity. One of the things that I notice especially in Rocky IV is that even when an entire country was against him and even though he had less than perfect training equipment on his quest to avenge Apollo Creed, he still pushed ahead and trained hard with focus and intent. That is exactly what I have been doing. Malfunctioning heart rate monitor, no problem I pushed harder, Step Mill not available, no problem I hit the stairs, can’t find keys, no problem I took husband’s car ☺ (lol). And I surely wasn’t goinig to let a little bit of pneumonia derail me!

I’m learning that life is not perfect and I will certainly never be perfect…but if you surround yourself with a perfect support cast, (including my husband, my family and the friends around me who support, encourage and sometimes offer a loving kick in the butt) and combine it with the perfect tools for the job – in my case, I have the perfect blend of MANSport supplements, and the mindset that although I will never be perfect, I will keep on working hard to be an excellent example of a human being pushing for perfection- you might just achieve your own version of perfection!
See you all at the Arnold’s…

Rocky - scrambling to the top of his game

The Big Push! 3 weeks to go til ASC 2011!

The Big Push
It has been said that sometimes, struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were to go through our life without any obstacles, we would be we’d never know how strong we really are. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. Give every opportunity a chance and leave no room for regrets.

I am just over three weeks out from the Arnold’s and my foot is on the pedal. I have fully recovered from pneumonia with no time to spare, but I shall not fret. I am working doubly hard to bring the best physique that I can to the stage and I will not disappoint myself, my family and friends or my sponsor. Modified plan, sticking to my diet and workout routines and I will make it happen! I am pleased with the progress I have made in such a short time back this past week, and it should be very exciting to see the final results.
My road has never been easy and I’m thankful for the obstacles that I have faced. Too increase my drive this past week, as my diet plan and training program ramped up, I added a scoop of MANSports Game Day to my Figure Fuel to help fuel my fire and keep me pushing towards my goal. To have relentless stamina you need something that will nourish your body and mind and put you on the fast-track and Game Day has definitely given me the edge that I need to keep me going.
Do I feel pressure? Of course I do, I’m human and I had set goals for myself this year obviously without obstacles and out of the gate I get pneumonia. PHFT! I think about something that Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, “Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.”
Thanks, Arnold, for the inspiring words! I will continue to climb to the top to reach my goals, staying thirsty at all times. Until next time.

No Roadblocks…just obstacles that must be overcome

1/22/11

I don’t believe in permanent roadblocks…sometimes, life puts obstacles in our way, but the challenge can enrich and strengthen us…

Well as life would have it I caught a cold this week. It started on Sunday and got progressively worse until it was full blown by mid-day Monday. I was in bed for the past three days; but on Wednesday, I managed to get up and go to my chiropractor and I felt well enough to do a light cardio session in the afternoon. Thursday was my first day back hitting the weights again; although I was not at full strength, it felt good to get that blood pumping again. I sincerely hope none of you get sick like this! It can be tough, though, especially during times of added stress, like during show prep and tough dieting. In order to bounce back and recover quickly, keep a few things in mind:
- Keep eating! The body needs the energy to recover! And inactivity due to illness can lead to catabolism and muscle breakdown. I stuck to my diet and planned meals.
- Stay hydrated, drink lots of water – being sick can increase your metabolic rate; you’ll run “hotter”, and potentially sweat even while resting and being well-hydrated is essential to help fight infection.
- Rest. Even though you’re in bed or taking it easy, the body is working hard to fight off infection; do not over-due activity, especially when your sick. Getting sick is often a sign that you’re under-resting anyway.
- And for me I continued to take my MANSports supplements. Especially my Figure Fuel. Figure Fuel is designed to help you preserve lean muscle and being sick I did not want to jeopardize my hard work by not being able to work out. It also contains vitamins and all the BCAA’s you need to keep you on track. Thankfully, I am on the road to recovery and will back at full strength in no time at all. It’s just another obstacle that needed to be surpassed on the road to my goal. Increase your Vitamin C intake and Glutamine, too. These immune-boosting supplements will fortify your body and help keep you strong and healthy.

And good things come in packages! Today I got a pleasant surprise – I was featured in an interview for SimplyShredded.com. Check out the pics and the full interview here…

Passion and Intensity…7 weeks out from ASC!

Seven weeks out…
Sounds like a title of a new movie LOL. WOW!! There are 47 days left until I step on stage at the ASC and my intensity has risen to an all new level. I have always been in my own mind, intense and focused when I’m training for a show – but as I get closer to the ASC I feel a whole new sensation that has come over me. I have been working hard in the gym; pushing myself beyond my limits, waiting to pass out…It doesn’t happen. Fueled by my Elite Competitor MAN Sports stack, I keep going.

I know you guys have felt that before right? You are in to something so much you can push through the pain and physical limits… I’m riding the intensity wave like a surfer hitting the pipeline on the North Shore now.  I hope to see many of you at the show – not only will I competing, I will also be at the MAN Sports booth at the Expo, so please be sure to stop by and visit with me, Meriza and Pete.

Had an awesome butt blasting workout with Meriza yesterday and looking forward to my circuit training in the morning. Body Octane and Figure Fuel ½ hour before I hit the gym and once again the intensity will be on display. ;)

An ancient Roman Poet once wrote, “Your profession is not what brings home your paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on earth to do. With such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.”

Going to bed early tonight so that I can wake up and practice my “profession”.

Until next time,

T-Minus…Countdown to the ASC!

Oh yes, it is seriously GAME ON at this point! The Arnolds is less than two months away and I am busting tail to bring in the best package for me to date to the stage. This does not come without some road blocks or hiccups. The other day, for example, I was beginning to feel the effects of the diet changes kick in (we recently dropped my carbs) and it was a struggle to push through my weight workout and cardio (that stairmill is always a challenge!). But, I kept driving forward, and pushed through all of my assigned training, after a pause to reflect on how important it is to me and to those around me that I do my best.
Although you may not hear it, all too often we allow ourselves to submit to thought, “I really don’t feel like working out today.” I know, I hear that voice in my head too! And it’s OK to feel that way. Everyone is human, and we’re all striving to be better than we were yesterday…some days, it’s just harder than others…and this week, with my new diet changes, it’s been tough! I’m training with Meriza who is an awesome coach, but her workouts are also super-tough! (Thank goodness for the Figure Fuel and Body Octane or I don’t know what I’d do!)
When I feel like this I usually sit myself down and visualize reaching my goals one at a time. I start to feel that tingling sensation come over me, and I do my best to get up, and will myself toward my goals. I know that each step on that darn stairmill, each rep with the weights, will carry me a step closer to getting me to where I want to be!

"Focus on the Winners Circle"

Ask yourself, when you hit those walls or speed bumps in your path, “what is it worth?” For me, it’s worth everything because it’s who I am, who I want to be and what I believe I can be. When I take a moment to reflect on the challenges of training, cardio and diet, I realize that this is a voluntary challenge I accept willingly, as a way to make me stronger and better. I have an internal drive and desire to create, and I’ve committed myself to using all the tools around me to help me on my way.
Too often people pursue their dreams – I like to think that I create mine. Even writing and sharing my thoughts here help to fuel my fire and keep me focused. The keys to my success lie within my own desire to succeed, my supportive family and awesome team, and my tool bag filled with the MANSports high performance supplements to keep my physical self fueled! I am going to keep pressing on…I have a date with Arnold Schwarzenegger in less than two months and I’ve got to look great! LOL!

As the most interesting man says, “Stay thirsty, my friends.”
