Beyond the Bikini-Redux

So in my last blog I made mention of a blog I wrote in 2010 titled “Beyond the Bikini”. With all of the upcoming shows and all of you beautiful people hitting the stage I thought it would be appropriate to repost this one for you.

Day after a show…..sweats, t-shirt, no make up, hair in a pony-tail, hat on pulled down tight… that’s a virtual picture of the real me. Me without the bikini, the make-up, the hair style, the bright lights… that is the real Khay Rosemond. I’m just like everyone else on stage and they are just like me. Everyone has a story and are champions in their own right.

When people that are not in the industry and even some that are, hear about “Bikini” championships or competitions the visual is a girl dressed in a little bikini shaking her butt in a provocative way in order to entice the unlookers because she has nothing better to do. “Well bikini competitions are easy, you don’t have to workout, you just throw on a bikini and shake your butt”, they would say. This couldn’t be any further from the truth. Regardless of the placing that an individual competitor comes in they are all winners and champions in their own right. The reason and the story of how that woman came to be standing on that stage is a true testament of what I define as Sexy-Strong. Each of the competitors has a story. Look Beyond the Bikini and understand that maybe the girl to the left of the stage was in an accident and was told she could never walk again, maybe the girl to the right had an illness that she recovered from, maybe the girl in the middle was in an abusive relationship and was told she was worth nothing and wouldn’t do anything with her life. You see these competitions are more than a “bikini competition” they are a showcase of individual victories that family, friends and fellow “champions” all get to witness and be a part of. So if you know someone who competes, go and support them and be sure to applaud EVERYONE because I can guarantee there is a great story Beyond the Bikini.

This goes out to all of the guys as well. You could have 1000 success story movies in a year if we took the time to listen to everyone’s struggles and triumphs. Makes me smile :-)

Everyday I’m Shuttling!

Everyday I’m Shuttling… Nutrients that is! Anyone who really knows about setting up a proper Eating Plan knows that it is MUCH more than calories in VS Calories out! Timing and Utilization are HUGE components of what we eat, if we don’t feed our bodies at the proper time, we waste so much potential and become less efficient! I really am excited for this product because essentially what it allows you to do is utilize what you are already doing even better! Train Hard, Sleep Hard!

As many of you know I am a Full-Time Professional Firefighter at a very busy Fire Department, one that actually shows up each year on the top busiest in the nation! With this comes working roughly 60 hours per week and 24 hour shifts, with the bulk of our calls coming during the late night and early morning! For anyone that is concerned with taking their Fitness serious, you know that you must also get plenty of sleep for growth and recovery! This is one area that I am constantly trying to manage, as you can imagine I must maximize all of the hours in a day in order to get things done! Being a Firefighter, Fitness Coach, and Physique Athlete are 3 Full-Time Lifestyles and fortunately I am able to blend them together a bit to take full advantage!

As far as sleep goes… There are times where my sleep cycles get VERY out of whack and when I am tired I am not able to sleep and when I am able to sleep I am not tired… Quite the vicious cycle! Until recently when MAN Sports came out with a revolutionary new product!REM P.M.!!!

REM P.M. taken about 30 minutes before I would like to go to sleep has allowed me to not only fall asleep, but STAY asleep, and then wake up the next morning feeling refreshed! This has added a huge boost to my Training and overall Well-Being, something that is invaluable! The Road to…

Where are you going when you wake up in the morning and heading to the gym? Outside of the obvious self answered question, my question to you is where are you really going? Everyone has a purpose for doing what they do. I believe the key to success is determining your purpose for traveling that road and knowing exactly where you are going. I wrote a blog a year or so ago titled, “Beyond the Bikini”. In it I gave my thoughts on why people compete and what drives them to work so hard to complete a goal. The answer to that varies as much as each person’s differs on stage, and so is the road we take to get there. Even though we all seemingly end up on the same stage, the road and the stage is different for all of us. Even though everyone sees us together on stage we are individually basking in our own light, reflecting on the fact that we have made it to the end of that particular journey and road. My road was built upon self doubt and the inability to live life like I wanted to. Once free of any restrictions, I set upon my journey with a goal, a plan and a map to get there. Of course there is no road without obstacles, setbacks and or hardships. But those are character building blocks that help us stand tall at the end of our journey. This year my road is leading to the Nationals in Atlanta. I have a goal, a plan, a few stops along the way and my map to get there. One of the things that I’m working on this prep are my shoulders and as promised here is a look at my shoulder workout;

• Seated Dumbbell Press – 3 x12
• Supers Set with upright rows with the curl bar – 3 x 12
• Side to front raises – 3 x 12
• High Rope Cable Pulls – 3 x 12
• Reverse Delt Pulls – 3 x 12
• Shoulder Press on Hammer Machine – 3 x 12

Aside from taking my MANSports Figure Fuel after the end of each of my workouts, getting a good nights sleep aside from all other things is one of the most important factors while training. If you are like me when I am in prep mode I find it increasingly harder to wind things down and sleep through the night. Fortunately MANSports has developed REM P.M.

Balance…

Anyone that has been involved in the Fitness Lifestyle for a period of time can tell you that staying Disciplined, Driven, and Determined for the long haul ultimately comes down to Balance! Similar to the saying “Everything In Moderation,” it is very important to learn and find the Balance between the several facets in Our Lives! Favor one side too much and the Balance will begin to tip and without correction will fall over and come crashing down! It is also important to realize and set reasonable Goals, that way we can set reasonable outcomes! If we are going extra hard in one area of Our Lives that is important, we need to realize that if we do not pay attention to the other important areas that Our Long Term Goals will ultimately suffer because of this! Things DO NOT happen overnight, but much like climbing a Mountain Peak, there are times that we must go back down to acclimate to our surroundings before ascending even higher than our previous best!

Some great ways to maintain Balance are to remember to take time out from Training and Work to relax your Mind and Body by spending time with your family, friends, and loved ones! Remember that it is also OKAY to not have to talk about nothing but Training! Your Mind and Body need rest and you will never receive this if you are constantly ignoring your surroundings, in the end it will only hurt your Long Term Goals and divert you from your path! Take time out for other activities and don’t be afraid to step out of the box a bit! Your Training should NOT inhibit Your Lifestyle! If you are afraid to experience new things, get out of the box, have fun, even leave the house because you think it will take you away from Your Goals… You are VERY wrong, this mindset will ultimately be the reason why you do not achieve success! There is nothing more impressive than seeing a Balanced individual who can be Successful in ALL of the aspects of Their Lives while influencing them around them!

Don’t be afraid to step out of the box… You’ll soon fine that their is a lot more Growth to be had outside of a confined space…
